양자점(QD)은 무엇인가요, 왜 QD 디스플레이인가요?

What is a quantum dot (QD), why is it a QD display?

QD는 반도체 나노 결정으로서, 순수한 원색의 빨강, 초록, 파랑 빛을 만들 수 있습니다. QD의 광전자적 특성은 QD의 조성과 크기 및 모양에 의해 결정됩니다. 지름이 5-6 nm 정도의 큰 QD는 빨강와 주황 등 장파장의 빛을 만드는 한편, 2-3 nm의 작은 QD는 파랑과 초록의 단파장 빛을 만듭니다.

QD 디스플레이는 청색 LED를 광원으로 사용하는데, 이 청색광이 QD 필름을 거치며 정확한 빛의 삼원색(RGB)으로 변환됩니다. 따라서, QD 디스플레이는 자연색을 그대로 구현할 수 있으며, OLED보다 높은 색 재현성을 보입니다.

QD is a semiconductor nanocrystal that can produce pure primary colors of red, green and blue light. The optoelectronic properties of QDs are determined by their composition, size, and shape. Large QDs with a diameter of 5-6 nm produce long-wavelength light, such as red and orange, while small QDs with a diameter of 2-3 nm produce short-wavelength light of blue and green.

The QD display uses a blue LED as a light source, which passes through the QD film and is converted into the correct three primary colors (RGB) of light. Therefore, QD displays can implement natural colors as they are and show higher color reproducibility than OLEDs.
